Whilst I like Brent very much, we have had him as cruise director for 3 cruises(one being the 15 night PC cruise) so it would be nice to see someone else. Cristiaan was the CD on our first 4 night cruise and I did like him very much. On our last cruise I believe it was Peter, and I wasn't quite as impressed.
On our four Disney cruises, we had Brent twice, Peter once and Clayton once. I loved Brent and Clayton, but to say that I was not quite so impressed with Peter would be the understatement of the year. He is a nice guy, but not cruise director material. On our last two cruises on the Magic, he was working crowd control at the character meet and greets and he did a fantastic job with that.
Glad you had a good weekend.
I seem to remember reading on the Did soon after we bought DVC points, and was trying to get to grips with all the rules and regs etc that DVC will don that once only, so better keep your eyes on things another year!!!
I'm always panicking about banking in time.
Yes, the guy who I spoke to was very quick to point out that this would be one time only exception. I have definitely learned my lesson. In future I ring Member Services to bank my points and then double-check on the internet that this has been done.
Thank you. I am too. I think the negative for La Cantina was that we could only book a table for an early reservation time - 6pm or something. I didn't vote for that as it would've made the afternoon very rushed...
No, the one with the early reservation was Coco Rio. We had dismissed La Cantina as a few people were very vocal that they did not want to eat there. Of course, the sweet irony was that none of them were actually there for dinner on the Saturday night in the end. Still, there are no hard feelings here. I reckon we got the best of both worlds. I really enjoyed the meal at La Regatta and we got the bonus lunch at La Cantina with some fabulous company.
A quick post to introduce myself personally. Hi I am Mark from Reading in the UK, you already know my wonderful wife Mandy (UKANGEL)
and she has kept me up to speed with everything that is going on.
Can't wait to meet you all soon.
I am also very excited now the documents have arrived!!
Welcome to the thread, Mark. I am glad that you are checking in.
on our last airplane flight, TSA inspected my bag and left a note in it saying they had, but they lost one of my sandals! There I was on the Magic in Dover with only one sandal! Good thing they didn't lose one of my good shoes!
Oh, I would have been so upset. This has made me even more determined to put my shoes in my carry on. I am only taking three pairs of shoes: my sneakers, which I will wear, a pair of
Crocs and my more formal shoes for dinner. So if a shoe would go missing, this would be a real disaster.
I sometimes wonder what sets TSA off. I had a suitcase for a while that was searched every time we returned from the USA without fail. Every time there was different stuff in there so this must have been something to do with the suitcase itself. I have nothing to hide and they are welcome to look. However, they have the nasty habit of sealing the suitcase with zipties through the zippers. The first time this happened, I had my coat in that case and arrived back in late November in temperatures that were just above freezing. I was not happy. I learned my lesson though. After this happened the third time in a row, I always made sure that I used this suitcase for the dirty laundry. Fortunately I got rid of suitcase a couple of years ago and had no problems since.
Connie and you made these comments about my 'smart clothing' for Palo post. Is there something wrong? Don't you all use that word? Do you think I am being odd or something saying that about the dress code for Palo?
I got the same reaction when I said on the Med cruise thread that Graham would wear smart pants for formal night. This is one of those situations where we are all supposed to speak the same language, but it does not quite work.
Hello everybody,
My family will be on the Magic along with the rest of you. This is our first cruise and we're really excited!
I've lurked for a while but have finally gotten around to posting!
Welcome on board. I am sure you will have a wonderful time.
Hi everyone. I'm one of those mostly silent lurkers who will also be on the WBTA. Just wanted to add that my Wine Country (Napa Valley), California cruise docs arrived today for DH & I! We'll be in 6609 on the cruise so don't be afraid to say hi. We don't bite! Promise...
Jackie & John
Welcome on board.
Thanks Sarah! I sent a PM to Lynne!
I have no idea what I did to my shoulder. I called my doctor's office this morning and the woman told me that the first available appointment was August 30!
I'm thinking to myself, I can't wait that long. So a little bit later, I called my doctor's secretary who promptly got me in on Thursday. I just want to know what is wrong with it. If it's only a muscle, then great! It will heal, but I want to rule out anything else since it is the shoulder that I landed on. Sigh...only me!
I hope that your doctor's appointment tomorrow will go well and that it is nothing serious. Bruising can be very painful and can take a while to settle down so maybe this is what it is.
Packing is almost done. Tomorrow we fly to London.
Woody
Have a safe flight and we will see you in a month.
Hi I want to introduce my self I'm the wife of thecooksluvdisney Cheryl.
my dh made me post cause I have had time to read all the great info that everyone shares here. I look forward to meeting everyone.
Welcome to the thread, Cheryl. I am glad that you are joining in.
My mother and I will be on B2B cruises on the Magic and wanted to drop in a say "hello"! We are game for fun activities and gatherings.
Oh! I am so glad they have laundry rooms onboard. The last cruise we took, they did not and it was difficult stuffing ALL those dirty clothes in that teeny, tiny bag!
Colleen & Betty
Welcome on board. I hope that you will have a wonderful cruise. I did the Med cruise in April and it was wonderful. I am so jealous of those of you who have this pleasure yet to come.
I know what you mean about not having a laundry room. We did a back to back cruise on another cruise line last year and they had converted the laundry room to the Casino the previous year. I so missed being able to do a quick load. I suppose I have been spoilt by
DCL and DVC.
Corinna - I don`t fully understand how it happened but DH and I got 44 points refunded for our WBTA cruise when I phoned DVC within 3 days of our completed Baltic cruise. Its as if you get the DVC version of OBC. I haven`t described it well - sorry.
This is the DVC equivalent of the 10% rebooking discount. I am trying to find out at the moment if they also offer a discount of the cash rate if you ring them within 3 days of returning from a cruise as I would be booking one of us on points and one on cash. I see another call to Member Services coming on.
Thanks for letting me know that your jewellery kits have arrived. I have updated the spreadsheet. I am hoping that some more have arrived today.
I am still catching up on all the pages, but wanted to tell you my good news/bad news. The good news is that I had a neurologist appt. this morning and he said I am doing excellent and I do not need to go back till next year!!
Bad news - NO DOCS!!!! Maybe they are upgrading me to the Walt Suite
You can all come for appetizers and cocktails if that is true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am glad that you had good news from your neurologist. I hope that you get your cruise documents soon.
Corinna - book in onboard and you should be able to get some OBC. We are seriously contemplating this one and may have to revert to points ourselves. Not too sure yet.
Unfortunately this won't be an option for us. Even with the onboard booking discount, we would still be looking at around $4000 for a category 11. With the vow renewal next year as well, this is more than is in my budget. So I have to either make the DVC thing work or hope that there will be plenty of cancellations and therefore industry discount rates for airline staff nearer the time.
According to Rick Steve's - don't bring anything your not prepared to use a minimum of 3 times. Seems to work. Remember, you have to carry it all yourself. So, try as hard as you can, to stick to that. If you can't wear it 3 times, out it goes.
That rule does not bode well for my formal/semi-formal/ Villains night dresses. I wonder if I would turn many heads if I turned up at the Signature restaurants at WDW in my evening gowns?
Hey all!!
Heard from DCL today about tastings, and I think we have flustered them a bit...
First, they have asked that we do not add anyone else to the seminars, so if you are on a wait list, you will beed to go and book with Guest Services at boarding.
On to the reply notes...
Wine - 56 people interested - to confirm with wine manager 1 cruise prior to sailing- what are the options - $15 per person (Looks like we can have one group - but in the same email they talked about splitting wine up as they will do 7-9 total throughout the cruise. so unlikely that we will have a DIS only tasting/seminar.)
Cognac - 34 people interested to confirm with ABM split group in 2 or 3 15 each - $20 per person (so, I have asked for 2 groups of 17 so that we can stay together - I hope that is OK)
Beer - 43 people interested possible seperate seminar only for this group - $ 15 per person (seems that this is the ONLY one that will be a DIS only tasting...)
Martini - 70 people interested to split group in two and give chance for other guests. Usually we have 2-or 3 seminars per crossing (40pax each) - $15 per person (if we go to 35 per group it doesn't afford DCL much for other passengers. I think we are better off getting into 3 groups - thoughts? We can do 25, 25, 20 if everyone is OK with that.)
Tequila - 50 people interested - to split group in two and give chance for other guests. Usually we have 2-or 3 seminars per crossing (40pax each) - $15 per person (like wine, I think we are better off being very flexible, as they have come out and said they want to be able to add other passengers to the group. So, what about 2 groups of 25?)
Drink of the day - 48 people interested Unable to do, we don't have a seminar for this. (I have seen impromptu tastings, not sure if we can arrange this once on board or not...)
Mojito - 42 people interested please provide menu details is it seminar or menu? (We stumped them - so I told them it was a seminar. Waiting for feedback. I hope that we are able to do this one!)
So, after I got this, I did call and talk to Dorothy and the sheer volume of requests really shocked everyone! So, based on that I suggest we agree to do smaller groups and have them primarily DIS. This is what I will go with unless there are objections. My PM box is pretty full, so please just post to the list.
Thanks everyone!
Sue
Thanks for organizing this.
It is a shame that they cannot do the Drink of the Day tasting. I know that they offered a Mixology class on the Med cruise, but I did not do this. I would have thought though that they could have done something like this with Drinks of the Day. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Mojito tasting.
Didn't the customer service rep explain to you that those are their new featherweight ultra high density no-see-um products?
I really wanted to do that cruise! A PC cruise is also on my wishlist of cruises. I faxed in a request to inventory control as soon as the Wonder's move to LA was announced (since you just knew they had to go through the canal to get there) and they assigned me rooms that very first day they were released. Unfortunately the cost took our breath away, and we opted to stick with this cruise instead (much more cost effective and also on my list of must-do cruises.) Hope it works out for you!
No, actually they didn't. they would have gotten a hard time if they tried. The one drawback of working in a customer services environment is that I have very high expectations when it comes to customer service. They have emailed me this morning to say that the replacements have been dispatched. They are coming from France so I hope that they will be here early next week.
I know what you mean about the cost for the PC cruise. We had planned to book this as soon as it was announced that the Wonder would be home-ported in Los Angeles, but suffered major sticker shock when the prices were released.
I have not had a chance to read all of today's posts (so many pages!!!!) In trying to get my thoughts together and gather all the info I can, I sent an email to DCL asking about using the Onboard Airline Check In process on the ship (for our return flight home from Orlando). Per DCL:
"Regrettably, the Onboard Airline Check-In Service will not be available for the Transatlantic cruise."
I also asked if they were able to share info regarding special guests/entertainment--they did not have any info to share.
Finally, I asked what days the formal/semi-formal nights would be and how many of them there would be. For some reason the info I received today seems "different" than what I have previously seen posted here. Does anyone have a quick link to the previous "formal" days posted? Honestly, I'm a little afraid to post what DCL gave me....I say that teasingly ... but.... No really, the reason I am hesitant is because it just seems like we all get different info based on who we talk to! If this info is different, how do we know which info is accurate?!?!?! Very confusing !
Hopefully this information is the same as previously posted:
14-Night Transatlantic Westbound Cruise
*Nights 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 14: cruise casual
*Nights 3 & 8: "formal night" - formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit;
for women: gown or dress
*Night 7: "theme night"
*Night 9: pirate night with deck party - cruise casual or bring your
best pirate outfit!
*Night 13: "semi-formal night" - semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket;
for women: dress or pantsuit.
This looks very familiar. I think this is version that we have been getting for a while now.
Dennis has come down with a cold.
I made chicken soup from some stock I had frozen for lunch. He needs to get better quick. He has a dental appt on Thursday and then cataract surgery on Aug 30. No time to be sick in the next month!!
I hope that Dennis feels better soon.
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow! I was lucky in that my Xray came back with no damage to the bone so I don't need anything on my hand, just have to try not to use it - she says typing away lol!
I am glad that the Xray was clear.
