I just finished reading this thread. Thanks for being so patient waiting for us to get thru the Gatun Locks. The weather quickly changed and it did rain all thru the night. They had sectioned off the front of the ship deck 9 which is situated beneath deck10 for wheelchairs. DH sat on his scooter the whole time til lunch. I had gone back later with another diser to film the last lock. We sat behind that darn freighter forever!!!!!! Here are some pictures from our point of view. The first is from a deck7 stateroom showing the storm coming in. OK we were trying to see who could get the first shot of lightning. Yes we were nuts We were just about within view of the locks at that time. The next two are in the lock.We must have been in the same position for over an hour. No movement. That poor guy was all alone on the bridge this time. I guess the officers didn't need to be there?????They did give out ponchos to those of us crazy enough to be on deck. But at that point we were wet. So we added them to the luggage. We got hopeful as the sky did clear up over the mountains but alas not over us. All in all it was memorable. DH had a good time and thanks to DCL,we were sheltered from the scorching sun. Hope these pictures let you relive our perspective of the Gatun Lock. We appreciate how long you stayed in front of the computer waiting for us. And thanks for the pictures. they are now part of my trip.
