On another note - I'm very happy to say that I've reached the half way point of my fundraising for the annual Arthritis Ride. As of today, I have raised $5,034 on my way to $10,000.

Thanks to all my disboard friends for helping to make this event a big success!

Sixty Seven Days!:cool1:
I'm ready. Winter has not been that bad, but I am in the mood for a cruise.

Alergies...
I am pretty fortunate. Don't think I have any. But do know people who do have to watch what they eat and drink. Not fun.

With all the planning....
I haven't read anything about Crocs or blinkie-flippy-floppies.

:surfweb: Well I did a bit of updating to the web site. :)

Went back a little bit in the thread and tried to pick up some of the websites that have been mentioned for planning. Those have been added to the Planning Links which can be accessed by clicking the link or from the top of the roster page.

If you have any links that you would like added (Tenerife is a bit lean) please post here or e-mail me and I will add them!

Cindy and Glydell,

I do know many people advocate taking sancks off the ship. You should be aware that is illegal in most countries to take food that is not prepackaged (and unopened) off the ship with you (water bottles with water are okay). The laws have to do with not wanting to introduce bugs or bacteria into the local agriculture (fruit is the worst thing you can take off). The odds of getting caught are slim and likely you would only have to dump your food if you were (though I have been on a cruise where lcoal authorities in Mazatlan fined people who said they did not have food and were found to have it).

Persoanlly I do feel localities have a right to protect their agriculture. Having said that I do have a picky eater and have traveled with friends whose daughter had life threatening allergies and I know what a challenge it is. The PBJs on the ship were prepackaged roundwhiches last time I was there, so if your kids can eat those they work well. We also found closed yogurts to take in the buffet. Otherwise, what our friends did (and we do just because our son is picky) was bring prepackaged items from home to take off the ship in port.

Anyway, this is something for you to think about.

one more thing..........
no jammie breakfast either.:confused3

Hey! We are at page 200 already and I got the top.

I hope my last post did seem rude or mean spirited--reading over I am not sure. Obviously do what feels right to you. I just wasn't sure if you would be aware that taking fruit, cheese, etc. off the ship was illegal. It is so easy to forget that every time you step off the ship you have technically crossed a border. I took food from room service off myself the first two cruises we took before I found out it was not legal.

Thank you to everyone for their great advice!:worship:

I also wondered if it was "illegal" to take food off the ship. I guess I need to find this out. If it is, it would only apply to produce...is that correct? I could carry of bread, meats and cheeses.

My two boys have life threatening allergies to peanuts, tree nuts & annatto. They could die if they eat these items. I have never feed them off the ship before!! In the past, we just made sure we were back on the ship before our next meal. I would like to be able to make a full day of the ports, if I can come up with a "safe" way to feed the boys.

Milestogo: :) I really like the cooler...I will have to look into it a little more. I have some coolers now, but they don't stay cold for two long.

Tenerife: We plan to take the local bus system (LOVE local busses--really feel like you see the culture that way) to Guimar to see the PYRAMIDS

I REALLY want to see the pyramids, too, but couldn't figure out a way to get to them. PLEASE look me up onboard and we can set something up! :moped:

Hi all! I am on the westbound repo, and wondered if any of you could help answer a few questions for me. We won't be able to book excursions for another couple of months, but I know it's old news for you. Do you have any info on the times that the Seville tour and the Seville on your own tours leave? Is there more than time for each tour? Is anyone here planning on doing this? Thanks for any help!

We have signed up for the "Seeing Seville" tour. 8:00am to 5:30pm. I can't help you with the "Seville on your own" tour, but my guess is that it starts at the same time.

Hi Cindy,
To the best of my knowledge ANY food that is not prepackaged and unopened is illegal. This is what I have read in guide books. Perhaps you can call DCL and ask? The USA has that regulation itself. Our friends who happened to be randomly chosen to have their car searcehd on a return from Canada a few months ago (and did not know it was illegal to bring in unpacakged food) were bringing back some European style sausge and a wax covered cheese. Since neither was in packaging (both were uncut and in the form it was sold in, but that is not a factory sealed plastic) they had to throw both out (about $200 worth!).
Prepackaged foods from on board can be yogurt and dry ceral and chips and little packets of saltines. Perhaps if you explained the situation then DCL could give you some other things that are usaully set out after they are opened? You can also tote things from home. Think of all the room for souvineers that will leave in your suitcases for the trip home! Our friends (whose daughter has life threatening allergies to treenuts, peanuts and eggs) brought granola bars, energy bars, cookies, and even lunchables (which they kept on ice and in the "cooler" in the room to stay fresh). They also bought whole fruit at grocery stores on land to add something nutritious. Their little girl pretty much ate junk food all day in port, but they figured it was okay for few days as it was temporary and they really wanted her to get to experience the trips.

Good Luck and keep us posted on what you find out :)

Hi Kathy,

We'll certainly look you up onboard (and/or you can look us up). In the meantime here is a link to the local Tenerife bus system's English language website. It is not the easiest website out there but it is okay and there is a lot of information there.:thumbsup2

Now we're talkin some SERIOUS vacation planning!!! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Although I do love the idea of bringing some containers that you can fill at the beverage station with milk and juice and soda and water and just keep in your room cooler/fridge thing. I often need to drink in the middle of the night and hate drinking the lukewarm water out of the tap. Being on the 8th deck this time (we've always been on lower decks before) the beverage station upstairs won't be such a hike, obviously, but nothign replaces the convenience of having it in your room.

I bet if you buy those bottles with screw-on lids that have a relatively large opening....you could even stuff your underwear, ties, socks into them when you're packing so they don't end up being wasted space inside your suitcases while you're traveling either!!

:tigger:

Erik

They're not as spill proof as a twist top water bottle, but we always end up buying the refillabale mugs at the resort when we stay at WDW the week before (you'll be at Pop Centruy won't you?) as I have to have my Coke (if Disney ever switches to Pepsi I will be devistated!). We then use those as our in room drink holders for the evening (or any time we want a bigger drink than the cups they offer--or just want it to stay cold longer). I find that if I put in as much ice as it will hold, water stays cold all night right on the nightstand. And yes you can stuff things in them when you are packing up to go home!

i am back! my hubby turned on our computer on sat night only to find the hard drive has crashed!!!! :badpc: i tried everything but no luck...so last night i installed anew one (320GB) so it should hold all my data for awhile...now i am going to update my ram too....

the bad news is that i lost everything from my old hard drive...nothing irreplaceble just a nuisance to replace...you all know the type of stuff like pics i had copied to make signs and links to all my favirite websites etc so i will be playing hard online to try to find all these things again!

Ok - Let's get the croc topic mentioned! The new crocs that were released on the 1st are better than the old ones. They do cost more but the have more of a dressy look. I've got mine on right now!

Hadley, NO you did not sound mean spirited in the above post, it was smart thinking!!::yes:: DCL told me that we couldn't bring unpackaged foods back onto the boat too. We were interested in breads and olive oil. Breads, no. Olive oil yes. But they didn't say anything about not leaving with food. So, that is a good question. There was no problem last year in Mexico, but like your friends maybe none of us were stopped. So, it is a good idea to get to know the laws. I had forgotten about the yogurt and energy bars - that is an excellent idea. Fruit is going to be relatively easy to find in each city depending on your excursion, so buying it there is a good idea too.

We were just researching crocs last night. Kathy had given me Nofear.com and we were just looking at crocs.com that gives you a place to buy them when you put in your zip code. I printed about 50 places within 10 miles of us. So, we have it on our planner to croc shop for the Disney crocs on Saturday.

We haven't had any problems with the screw tops leaking and we use them every week for travel (29 weeks per year) we like them because they are wide mouth and easier to clean and reuse. pop em in the dishwasher when we get home and they've lasted years for a couple of bucks. We have traveled with a bottle brush too (on much easier trips.) Good idea, Eric. put extra stuff in for the way home. We usually fill them with water for the airports and car travel, but I'm not sure if we are allowed to have water anymore on flights.

Debbie, good idea! I've been keeping many of the web sites that we've posted all year on a word file, so I'll look up what I have. This is my week to organize all our plans and notes and finalize my 3 ring binder!

txaggie94gigem :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: UGH!

A xyron machine is used in scrapbooking. It can make an paper into a sticker, laminate it or make it into a magnet. I use it all of the time for stickers but I have never used it for magnets before.

Thanks Again!

Brooklyn-I used my Xyron last night with the magnet paper. It works great. Did an 8 1/2 x 14 and put it on our refrigerator and it was hanging there this morning just like I left it. Now, I will use it to make my magnets!

Thanks for asking.
